Chris Herenius

Stilled, timeless and fragile is the atmosphere of the sublime still lifes of Chris Herenius (1943). Fascinated by small and exquisite objects, with many details, he paints his deliberate compositions. Beautiful insects, fragile feathers, crumpled papers, dry leaves or an old bowl. Isolated they are displayed and arranged so subtle that they work almost meditative and call for reflection. Displaying the right fabric expression is a challenge in itself. The subtle light in an old bowl with crackle, the transparency of a withered leaf or the velvety feathers of a dead bird.

All this shows the great care and love with which Chris Herenius selects and paints his subjects. Similarly, the technique used by him. As a former painting teacher at the Art Academy, Chris Herenius masteres any technique in unmatched way and he leads every type of paint to the structure and appearance desired by him. For him, the choice of paint on an object is a matter of course. For us 'ignorant ones' this is sometimes misleading. Can oil paint really look so transparent, or aquarelle look so powdery? Masterful still lifes, to literally and figuratively stand still by.
