Corry Kooy

Everything in the paintings of Corry Kooy (1960) exudes vitality, warmth, commitment and passion. Characteristics inherent to the character of the artist. Corry Kooy is someone who paints from life, but above all to the fullest participates in lfe. And that is someting you feel. Her field of interest is broad and her experiences intense. She has an eye for the beauty of the everyday. Special moments that go to fast and pass unnoticed before our simple eyes: the hopeful look and lanky first steps of a newborn calf, a sparkling play of sunlight on a picturesque square in Tuscany or touching children playing in a summer surf. By her however this kind of subtle atmospheres are masterly felt, observed and recorded.

As more than gifted draftsman Corry Kooy, as one of the few, is also able to depict her subjects directly and on the spot. Usually she uses the pastel crayon, and she masteres this difficult technique peerless. Her surefire hand testifies solid virtuosity because the technique of pastel is irreversible and once the first strokes are put on paper there is little more to correct or disguise. It is right or wrong, and with Corry Kooy its is usually the first. Sometimes she decides in the studio to work out a sketch in oil paint or watercolor. Inherent to this technique those paintings are often richer in tone and more developed. But the essence is the same as a painting by Corry Kooy, regardless of the technique, has a distinctive signature. A multitude of fast and direct strokes provide a dynamic play of colors, lines and planes. She has a great eye for detail and works with incidences of light that make her work even more sparkling. Despite the speed and motility of her brushstroke and subjects her work, remarkably enough, always looks intimate and harmonious.

Clearly Corry Kooy has an innate talent. But she has also worked hard to achieve her current level. It lacks Corry Kooy certainly not to character and commitment. As a critical and and eager to learn artist her craftsmanship has grown and matured tremendously in recent years. She has become one with her multicolored palette and masteres the brush and chalk now completely. Integer and competent she creates from the heart with life itself as a guide. This will keep her paintings continue to grow, captivate and excite.
