In her realistic still lifes, preferably on a modest scale, Ingrid Smuling (1944) creates frozen images of lovingly observed objects, in combination with flowers and fruits. Ingrid Smuling knows how to create her own reality with a subtle play of light and shade which gives her still lifes an atmosphere of peace and harmony. Specifically, the series 'paintings in a painting': Renaissance portraits processed in a still life, but also portraits from other ages are included in the composition of her atmospheric paintings.

Ingrid Smuling has a very personal style of painting, where she maintains a perfect balance between realism and figuration. With subtle, yet visible brush strokes she knows how to put charm and atmosphere in her paintings. Hereby she has conquered a leading position as a painter of still lifes today with a wide audience.

Ingrid Smuling was trained at the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague, The Netherlands.
