Marion Visione creates women's sculptures in timeless elegance
MARION VISIONE / Jul 8th, 2017

Marion Visione (1951) is a figurative artist, autodidacte and sculptor, who lives and works in Amsterdam. Fascinated by circular organic shapes, she chooses as the subject for her sculptures almost exclusively female characters. The sculptures of Marion Visione are created from a historical consciousness and are covered by their graceful, almost mythical aura. Suspended in bronze, they remind of sculptures from Roman or Etruscan ancient times. At the same time, the women's sculptures radiate a timelessness, enabling them to conquer their legitimate place in our modern world. As a sculptor, Marion Visione enjoys international fame: her sculptures are sold to both individuals and institutions at home and abroad. They are a permanent component within the collection of gallery Wildevuur and are exhibited throughout the year in our sculpture garden. From 6th of October you can make a visual trip through the mythical world of Marion Visione, during the exhibition at the Estate Hiemstrastate..

Creative journey in layers
The sculptures of Marion Visione are characterized by their fragile construction and dynamic form. In order to achieve exactly the effect she has in mind, she models her sculptures first in wax. Then layer for layer she gradually builds the sculpture, creating a kind of floating structure. Visione almost never works from a pre-defined definite idea. With every new sculpture she takes a creative journey through her rich imagination world. The final theme of her work, the design and the dynamics only develop during the creation process. This creates an integrated whole, within which the story behind the sculpture slowly comes to life. Only when it has revealed its specific meaning completely, the sculpture is casted into bronze. The sculptures of Marion Visione are largely hollow and like their wax predecessors, composed of many thin layers of bronze. Each layer is finished with meticulous refinement, which gives the bronze works a fragile and dignified appearance.

Greek antiquity and modern abstraction united in bronze
Marion Visione herself says about her works: "I love round shapes and curved lines. The female anatomy is a tangible invitation to imagine that. " Themes from Greek and Etruscan Ancientity are the main source of inspiration. In the Greeks, the mythical life was intertwined in a self-evident way with life on earth: the whims of the gods largely determined the destiny of humanity. Visione addresses this theme: she is looking for the balance between reality and mysticism, the divine, eternal. This approach is most evident in the deliberately incomplete aspect of the bronze women's sculptures; The patina seems to have been applied over the centuries, which creates an archaic appearance. Abstraction is used to express an emotion: it imparts a decorative element to the sculpture, thus creating a timeless dynamism or expression of a particular feeling. Marion Visione's women figures call memories of antiquity, but because of their abstraction, they also have a certain recognizability, thus bridging our modern age..
