The light reflects her head on the door of the Pictura gallery as an aureol around Esther Leuvenink. My "In silence" painting, with the woman in prayer, deals with direct contact with God. The surroundings are not immediately noticeable. The light, as it were, plays the role of prayer in the background. “As a modern Mary, Esther tells me how she seeks contact with her friends circle and prays for people of different origins. "Religion plays a big part in my work. Not only in the light but also in the way I depict people, “Esther tells me. “ I want to put people down as valuable individuals. I'm interested in the inside, not just the outside. "With tempera and a lot of patience, Esther depicts detailed portraits. “Egg tempera is tricky, quirky stuff. You need a lot of experience to use it and even make mistakes. But from those mistakes, exactly what you want to achieve is the vulnerability of the inside.

”The romp with the paint, as Esther calls it, she has learned to master at the Classical Academy.“At the academy I learned how to paint. Before that, I have never followed classes, but I've always drawn. When I signed up, I totally opened up to what happened to me, and the Classical Academy has met all my expectations.”

Esther Leuvenink also teaches herself in fine painting and more information about her and her work can be found on her own website
