Pastel painting

The term pastel painting can refer to two things: a painting that is painted in soft, light tones or a work of art which is created with pastel chalk. Therefore, a pastel painting can also be made on colored paper. This allows the artist to achieve a special effect, because the color of the underlying paper serves as a middle tone so that the pastel painting gets an overlapping hue.
